6th Annual Women in Business Summer Social

Few places can compare with the beauty and relaxing atmosphere of the Cottonwood Market Street Grill, one of Salt Lake’s most popular restaurants and host of the 6th Annual Women in Business Summer Social. The Summer Social sponsored by the Women’s Business Center and the Business Women’s Forum will feature delicious horde ores, a cash bar, a self playing piano on the Patio with a spectacular view of the Wasatch Mountains. Join friends and other women in business in celebration of another successful year of the Women’s Business Center and the Business Women’s Forum.

As a business owner, the summer social can provide the ultimate networking opportunities. According to Nancy Mitchell, Executive Director of the Women’s Business Center, “The Summer Social has grown steadily each year in terms of number of women attending, number of booths sold and the number of items donated for silent auction”. Women want to socialize with other women and keep abreast with the happenings in the community.

Diana Young, Chair person of the Business Women’s Forum adds, “This year there was an overwhelming demand for the booths at the Summer Social. More and more women in Utah are starting businesses and the Summer Social is a perfect place to market their wares. We have booths ranging from bridal gowns, to jewelry to psychic readings. It is going to be a lot of fun”.

The 6th Annual Summer Social will have approximately 200 women attendees and the seats are going fast. If you have never been to a summer social in the past below are some pointers.

Tips for successful business and social networking at the summer social:

First impressions count: Be mindful of the image you are projecting. You can wear your favorite pair of jeans and a torn T-shirt or be overly dressed, you can overlook the fading polish on your nails or be very well groomed, and you can be on your best behavior or yell at the top of your voice. Whatever the image you want to project just be yourself. However, don’t forget your business cards.

Be interesting and inquisitive: The Summer Social is great for casual interactions. Remember to show a genuine interest in the person by asking open-ended questions that can lead to a great conversation.

Be casual when following up: The Summer Social is a great time to build your network, so follow up should be casual, not forceful. One “thank you” email or phone call is sufficient and can open the door to another point of contact at another time.

Don’t forget your purse: Take some cash for the cash bar or to buy a thing or two from the variety of booths that will be vying for your attention. Handbags, pearl necklaces are some of the goods that you will find hard to resist.

The Summer Social will be held on August 10, 2006 at the Cottonwood Market Street Grill between 5:30-7:30 pm. To donate an item for the Silent Auction please or to RSVP for the event call Lavanya Mahate at 801-957-2030.
