Tech Etiquette

Today some tech etiquette for you:

Put the blackberry away during meetings to let people know you are giving full attention to the proceedings.

Just because your bluetooth headset is unobtrusive doesn't mean you can interrupt someone you're speaking with to take a call.

It is also polite to pull out your iPod headphones (both of them) when you are talking to a colleague.

PRSA again

PrSa ended yesterday. It was a very good event.
On the last day they had several events related to social media.
The one on blogging was packed with people sitting on the floor and outside the door.
This shows the big interest that there is in this area and I'd say that the slow adoption of pr agents to this tool may be simply a matter of more education on the subject. Most know what a blog is, they have an idea on how it works but don't fully grab the possibilites that are related to their profession.

The Happy Ending By : Rachana Balakumar 4th Grade

Once there was a girl named Maria and she was very poor. Her dream was to become a artist. So this is the story of a little girl who's dream came true.

Maria was in the yard dreaming about art as she was painting. Her dad was planting seeds for the summer. It was a crisp cool day where chickens were roaming freely before they would be fenced up. Maria's mom was watering the garden as she hummed a peculiar tune.

As you know Maria's family very poor so they couldn't afford lots of stuff."Maria it's tme for dinner" said Maria's mother. Maria realized the sunset was setting and she was on the porch alone."Coming mom" she said. She started to take her stuff inside and then she looked at her painting. It had squiggles and lines."I'm never going to become a artist" she said.

Her mother was setting dinner on the table. When Maria saw dinner she forgot all about her painting."This is the first yummy meal we ever had in years" Maria said. "Your father earned a lot so we can have a good meal" Everyone sat at the table and ate slowly so they can enjoy their meal. After they finished their meal they went to sleep. everybody was fast asleep from the yummy dinner including Maria. The next mornng was the same.

Then everything changed."Maria I have a suprise for you, can you guess? "No mom I can't please can you tell me" Maria said. Her mom said the same as before. Maria's mom slowly pulled out her hand when Maria couldn't guess anymore. Behind Maria's mom's hand was two tickets to the art gallery across the street. They went inside their house and got dressed for the art gallery. When they got dressed they walked across the street and walked into the art gallery. When they got inside it looked like a palace. They walked across the long hallway and came to a room called abstract art."Let's go in here" Maria's mom said. They saw all types of arts. None of them looked like beautiful paintings out front."Mom these paintings don't look pretty at all" she said. Maria's mom said that not all paintings have to be pretty to be called art. Maria knew what she was talking about, her painting of squiggles. Maria's mom hugged Maria. They looked at the whole muesum and went home looking happy.

Next day Maria's papa came looking enthusiastic. Maria tried asking what had happened but he wouldn't tell. Finally, he told what was going on he said the crops had grown 2 feet tall. Soon after that news everybody was jumping for joy. You might not know why they are jumping just because the crops had grown 2 feet tall but now you will know. Crops growing 2 feet tall are very rare because people buy more stuff from them. So then they get enough money to buy a good dinner.

When Maria finished jumping papa was in the yard picking the good vegetables and fruits and put them in a basket. Maria went to help. Soon after Maria's family picked everything it was time to go to the town square and sell what they have. Some people were impressed that they had so many crops. Lots of people bought their vegetables and fruits. When Maria's family finished selling everything they at last went home. Their faces were gleaming as they went home proudly.

At home that night they were talking and eating happily. Maria wasn't thinking of painting outside so she painted inside but she wasn't working on a new painting instead she took out her other painting she said that was ugly. Maria looked at it in a way she had never looked at a painting before. To her it looked like a strand of noodle. She carefuly put it on her table and started to paint over the lines. When she finished she showed it to her mom. Maria's mom was so happy that she took out the nails and a hammer and nailed it on the wall. Maria felt proud in the most confident way Maria wasn't a educated girl but she still was very smart. Each day she would read a bit a of a book that Maria's mom used to read when she was young. The book was very interesting to Maria so that's why she was willing girl. Each day she would read a bit of the book and look up at the picture that she had painted. She thought that she would become a famous artist, Maria Fransico the artist. That was her dream name.

4 years later Maria was sitting at her table drawing the most beautiful picture yet. Dreams were drifting in head. She was drawing a painting about a orchad and a little cat eating a apple. Maria's mom came to look at the picture that her daughter was making."That's a wonderful drawing Maria" she said in a sweet voice as she was cleaning the dishes." Thanks" Maria took a break and helped her mom. After that she asked her mom where papa was. Maria's mom said he was on the porch reading a book. When Maria went outside she found him. She didn't make a sound. There was her papa sitting as still as a cheetah climbing on it's prey accept he was reading a book. "Hi papa" Maria said. After a moment or so he lowered his book in a way Maria loved. "Hi papa" she said again."Hello honey" he said in a rough voice. "I'm going to the art gallery" Maria said. Papa said okay and I went inside to grab my notebook.

The art gallery was the place where most of Maria's idea's come to her. Maria went to the closet and got her coat. When she went outside it was a crisp and cool with the crunching of the leaves under Maria's feet. She walked across the street and entered the art gallery. Inside it was half empty. She sat on her favorite bench and stared into space for some type of vision to form in her head so she can draw it, but as she was thinking someone came asked something that was blurred." Can you repeat that again"? Maria said. As Maria lifted her head she saw it was the owner of the art gallery."I said are you Maria"? Maria replied yes. The owner told Maria that she came to her house and spoke with Maria's mom. As the owner was talking with Maria's mom she saw Maria's painting."I was thinking mabe you would like to hang one of your paintings our art gallery" said the owner. That was an offer Maria couldn't refuse.

The owner went into her office and came back with a bunch of papers. "Well all you got to do is answer these questions and bring in a painting" she said. "How old are you "? she asked "18" Maria replied. The rest Maria was to ask my mom to answer. Maria was running home with excitment. "Mom,Mom" Maria called. "What" Maria's mom came running. Maria ran out of breath and so she had catch her breath. She told her mom everything that happened at the art gallery. Maria's mom was hugging Maria as hard a teddy bear. Right after that Maria's mom was signning the paper Maria had got home. When all of them were signed and answered Maria took out the her most beauitful painting which was the painting of the orchad and the cat eating the apple. Maria went to submit her painting. It hung in the gallery with such pride to Maria.

Then one day everybody came rushing to the art gallery as Maria was drawing. Maria thought what was going on. Everybody was crowding around her painting. Then everybody looked at Maria. Everybody came and crowded around Maria with questions like "How did you do that"?Maria tried answering every question that everybody asked her. Then people started sayng stuff like What a talent. In that very spot Maria cried. Lots and lots of tears were rolling down Maria's cheeks, but these were tears of joy. Her dream had came true she was Maria Fransico the artist. The End
